Before you read this entry you should bear in mind that I'm not their supporter nor their fan. I don't reckon their actions as adorable. But it was an example for vigilant lawless and brutal acts. ---------------------- For the first time in the Indonesia (if not the world) that a group of elite force attack one of their own country law institution. Ignoring the presence of the state's warranty to it's citizen under the law. And all just for the sake of revenge. They were maybe law abiding citizen, soldiers who unfortunately can't believe in the law anymore. The bond between each member and to their group is falsely stronger than their loyalty to the flag on their chest. This false loyalty, unfortunately, was blessed by the president when he called them as "noble". Dear Mr. President, wouldn't you agree, that the loyalty of a soldier should address the country, not the corps. I felt upset following the army trial which was all just jokes and effort to save the army, not saving the state and the constitution. The court even used the term "preman" indonesian word for thugs, to call those 4 death victims caused by this prison ambush. Using this term on a court gave the effect that this killings was righteous and the attack on a state institution become less important. Using the term thugs to call those victims was already a discrimination in front of the law, not equality. Imam Anshori Saleh, a commisioner for the Judicial Commision, who attended the last trial of the executor found that the using of this term "preman" as inappropriate so he said to TEMPO.co. Sad to know that the constitution was played like a doll by the army tribunal for the last 11 weeks starting from June 20th until September 5th, 2013. In the end, the trial didn't bring justice but more injustice for the state itself. It brought no justice for the dead victims and their families. It brought no justice to the families of those 12 soldiers. The Jakarta Post wrotes: After hearing the verdict, I ran quickly to the cells behind the court rooms to cover the soldiers and their families. The wives and children, most of them in red clothes were waiting, some sobbing and some others comforting each other. One of the two Sergeant Major Zaenuri comforted his two children inside the cell while talking to his wife. The parents of these soldiers couldn't hold their tears knowing that their sons (3 of the 12) were fired from military duties.
Wearing the red berret was a dream for each indonesian soldiers and pride for their families. Only some could wear it. As a human being, I know that they were brutal in their action. But seeing these moments, I felt touched and I also see them as human. I kept shooting several frames to capture these family moments until one of their supporters covered my lens with his palm and a military police officer pulled me hard to go away and forbid me to take pictures near the cells. |
